Minerals

There are 60 minerals in the body, only a third of which are considered necessary for good health. Minerals are in bones, teeth, soft tissue, muscle, blood, and nerve cells and are indispensable for mental and physical well being. All the complex substances that the body needs to build new and healthy cells are dependent on minerals. The human body cannot maintain good health without a complete set of minerals that are included in the daily diet.

There are two forms of mineral; micro minerals and macro minerals.  Macro minerals are needed in large amounts and micro minerals are the opposite tiny amounts.

Macro minerals

Macro minerals required to support biochemical processes, many playing a role as electrolytes or in cell structure and function. Taking the right recommended dosage will keep your body healthy and happy.  If you take too much the effect can be harmful if not deadly. Below is the major Macro minerals and what role the play in your body.

-Calcium   for muscle, heart and digestive system health, builds bone, neutralizes acidity, supports synthesis and function of blood cells)  Daily recommended dosage is 1000 milligrams daily

-Chloride  for production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and in cellular pump functions. Daily recommended dosage is 3400 milligrams daily.

-Magnesium  Bones, liver, muscles, transfer of intercellular water, alkaline balance, and neuromuscular activity. Daily recommended dosage is350 milligrams daily.

-Phosphorus Builds bones and teeth, energy production, acid-base balance, necessary in metabolism and cell membranes, calcium absorption. Daily recommended dosage is1000 milligrams daily.

-Potassium  Cell membrane potential, nerve impulse conduction, heart rhythm, acid base balance. Daily recommended dosage is3500 milligrams daily.

-Sodium Electrolyte balance, body fluid volume, nerve impulse condition. Daily recommended dosage is2400 milligrams daily.

Micro minerals

Numerous minerals are required in micro amounts and are usually cofactors for enzymes. I listed a few, no more important than the others, to show the medical reasons we need them.

-Cobalt is required for biosynthesis of vitamin B12 family of coenzymes . Daily recommended dosage is3 to 5 micrograms daily.

-Copper is required component of many redox enzymes, including cytochrome c oxidase. Daily recommended dosage is2 micrograms daily.

-Fluorine participates in formation of tooth enamel which contains fluoroapatite. Daily recommended dosage is1 milligram daily.

-Iodine is required for the biosynthesis of thyroxine.  Daily recommended dosage is12.5 milligrams daily.

-Iron is required for many proteins and enzymes, notably hemoglobin.  Daily recommended dosage is10 millagrams daily.

-Manganese is a cofactor in function of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase.  Daily recommended dosage is2 to 5 milligrams daily.

-Molybdenum is required for xanthine oxidase and related oxidases.  Daily recommended dosage is150 to 500 micrograms daily.

-Nickel is present in urease. Daily recommended dosage isless than 1 milligram daily.

-Selenium is required for peroxidase (antioxidant proteins). Daily recommended dosage is150 to 500 micrograms daily.

-Zinc is pervasive and required for several enzymes such as carboxypeptidase, liver alcohol dehydrogenase, carbonic anhydrase.  Daily recommended dosage is15 milligrams daily.
